Flower History

The blue cornflower was adopted as a national symbol during the 19th century, linked to the Prussian monarchy. Queen Louise of Prussia wove cornflowers into her crowns during the Napoleonic retreat. Today it is an emblem of the German conservation movement. Once common in wheat fields, intensive farming drove it to near-extinction — its resurgence is now tracked as an indicator of agricultural biodiversity health.
