Flower History

The sacuanjoche takes its name from the Nahuatl sacuan-xochitl, meaning yellow flower. Its five white petals with a yellow centre emit a sweet, persistent fragrance. It blooms in the dry season — December to April — and adorns gardens, parks, and cemeteries equally. Plumeria rubra is also called frangipani, a name it shares with the Italian nobleman who first compounded a perfume to match its scent.
